In particular, one night we had front row seats to a lovely rainstorm over Wendover.Īdditionally, our AT&T signal was great having at least 3 bars the whole time of our stay. Thus, making boondocking Bonneville salt flats very pleasant indeed. During our stay we were fortunate enough to have beautiful days. While many only stayed for the day, at least one camper would stay each night.Įven with the popularity of the site it still was quiet, with only the occasional sound of an atv or car passing by. Hiking, atving, mountain biking, motorbiking and of course checking out the salt flats. It seems to be a popular place for locals and tourists alike.ĭue to the fact that there are many activities that can be fulfilled in the vicinity of our site. This would prove to be the case for our entire 4 day stay. To our surprise there where several other campers and day visitors when we arrived. Boondocking Bonneville Salt Flats Our Spot Leveling is required, as the site has an incline from back to front as you face the salt flats. The actual site was more rutted than the dirt road coming in so it was a little slower over this section. So, we were not too concerned for Cup Cake as she slowly transverses this section. In general, most access roads to locations like this have similar quality of surfaces. Access to our BLM~ site was via a 350 metre slightly wash board dirt road. Surrounded by mountains on one side with vistas over the salt flats the other, we could not have picked a better spot. Our camp location while boondocking Bonneville salt flats is at the foot of Volcano Peak. Before us laid the vast white salt flats for as far as the eye could see. However, that all changed as we crested the hill in Wendover. We were hoping it would change along the way into more picturesque vistas. Having left Winnemucca this morning we encounter much of the same boring scenery we had seen the day before. Boondocking Bonneville Salt Flats we have a bird’s eye view of the salt flats shimmering white from the desert sun. The flats are comprised of densely packed salt that shine white under the daylight sun. Approximately 15 kilometres from Wendover which lies on the state borders of Utah and Nevada. The Bonneville salt flats speedway is located in the northwest of Utah. Land speed records have been set here with famed British racer Sir Malcolm Campbell the first man to drive an automobile over 300 mph in 1935. ![]() If speed is your thing then, this is a place for you.
